How to Calculate the Difference Between Two Cells in Numbers

Numbers can be tricky to use at first, and especially if you're new to setting up spreadsheets. With time, though, Numbers will become a quick and efficient way to record information and calculate data.

Steps

1. Add a row beneath the row containing the minuend and subtrahend.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   • Minuend: The number being subtracted from.
   
   
   • Subtrahend: The number being subtracted.
   
   
   
   


2. Merge the two cells directly beneath the minuend and subtrahend.
   
   
   
   


3. Create the subtraction formula.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   • Type an = sign into the new cell.
   
   
   • Select the minuend's cell.
   
   
   • Type a - (minus) sign.
   
   
   • Select the subtrahend's cell.
   
   
   • Approve the formula by clicking the green check mark.
