How to Make Spicy Mashed Sweet Potatoes

This mashed potato recipe using sweet potatoes is great for a side dish for a holiday or occasion. Use chili and cayenne powders to kick up the taste in your next potato dish. Here is how to make spicy sweet potatoes.


Ingredients



  • 2 large sweet potatoes

  • 1/2 white potato

  • 6 tablespoons pure maple syrup

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne powder

  • 1 teaspoon pure chili powder

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature


Steps



  1. Use a vegetable or potato peeler to peel the potatoes. Dice them in small cubes.





  2. Boil the potato cubes in a large pot. Bring the water to a boil and reduce the heat to a simmer. Leave it simmering for at least 15 minutes.





  3. Completely drain the potatoes using a colander.





  4. Add the potatoes, salt, maple syrup, chili powder, and cayenne powder in a food processor.





  5. Add a tablespoon of butter at a time while processing the ingredients together.





  6. Combine all ingredients thoroughly until a creamy mixture is achieved.





  7. Place the mashed potatoes in a saucepan on a low heat. Stir occasionally until warm.
