How to Connect an iPad to iTunes

Connecting and syncing your iPad with iTunes is an ideal way to manage the applications on your iPad, especially when you make new purchases from the iTunes Store. Follow the steps outlined in this article to learn how to connect your iPad to iTunes and use the sync feature within iTunes.


Steps


Connecting an iPad to iTunes using USB



  1. Open the iTunes application on your Windows or Mac computer.





    • If you do not currently have iTunes installed, go to http://ift.tt/oLh1sv to download and install the latest version of iTunes.



  2. Connect your iPad to your computer using the USB cable included with your iPad.





  3. Wait for iTunes to recognize your iPad. The name of your device will appear in the upper right corner of iTunes after it has been recognized.





  4. Click on “Device” or “iPad” located in the upper right corner of iTunes.





  5. Click on the “Apply” button located at the bottom right corner of iTunes. The data between your iPad and iTunes will begin to synchronize.





  6. Wait for iTunes to inform you that the iPad sync is complete.





  7. Click on “Done,” then click on the “Eject” button located on the iPad button within iTunes.





  8. Disconnect your iPad from the USB cable. The data between your iPad and iTunes is now synced, and your iPad is ready for use.






Connecting an iPad to iTunes Wirelessly



  1. Tap on “Settings” on your iPad.





  2. Tap on “Wi-Fi,” then wait for your iPad to search out all available Wi-Fi networks.





  3. Tap on the name of the same Wi-Fi network your computer is connected to. Your iPad will connect to that particular Wi-Fi network and display the Wi-Fi logo[1] .





  4. Launch iTunes on your Windows or Mac computer.





    • If iTunes is not installed on your computer, go to http://ift.tt/oLh1sv and install Apple’s latest version of iTunes.



  5. Connect your iPad to the computer using the same USB cable that came with your iPad.





  6. Click on the button labeled “iPad” or “Device” at the top right corner of iTunes.





  7. Click on the tab labeled “Summary.





  8. Place a checkmark next to “Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi. Your iPad will now be wirelessly linked to iTunes on your computer.





  9. Disconnect your iPad from the USB cable connected to your computer.





  10. Click on “Apply” at the bottom right corner of iTunes. The data between your iTunes and your iPad will start to synchronize.





  11. Wait for iTunes to inform you that the sync between iTunes and your iPad is complete.





  12. Click on “Done,” then click on “Eject” located on the iPad button within iTunes. Your iPad is now ready for use[2] .








Tips



  • If you are connecting your iPad wirelessly with iTunes, your iPad will sync at any time iTunes is open on your computer or if you are charging your iPad, as long as both your iPad and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
