How to Perform the Severed Finger in a Box Trick

You can fool people into believing that you have a severed finger in a box. Doesn't that sound like fun?

1. Start with a small cardboard jewelry or gift box. The box needs a removable lid and a cotton insert. It should be big enough to conceal your finger.
   
   
   
   


2. Remove the lid and cotton insert.
   
   
   
   


3. Cut a hole in the bottom of the box.The hole should be large enough to fit your finger snugly. The position of the hole should be off-centered so that your finger can lay down without touching the sides of the box.
   
   
   
   


4. Cut a hole in the cotton insert and return it to the bottom of the box. Copy the size and position of the box hole. Align the holes.
   
   
   
   


5. Add some red marker or paint to the cotton insert. Make it appear that there is a little bit of blood around the hole in the cotton insert.
   
   
   
   


6. Insert your finger, up to the second joint, into the hole in the bottom of the box and through the cotton.
   
   
   
   


7. Replace the lid to hide your finger.


8. Position your hand so that it appears you are holding the small box flatly in your hand.
   
   
   
   


9. Ask a friend to observe you, then remove the lid revealing what looks like the stump of a bloody severed finger.
