How to Screenshot a Snapchat

Screenshotting a Snapchat is no different than the basic process of normal screenshotting on your phone. However, if you don't want the other person to know you are keeping their image forever, the process is slightly more complicated. See Step 1 below to learn how to take screenshots of any Snapchat, as well as how to be sneaky about it.

Steps

Taking a Screenshot with Notifications

  1. Learn how to take screenshots with your phone. Taking a screenshot of a Snapchat is the same as taking a screenshot of any other app, but you'll need to be able to do it quickly. Taking a screenshot will send a notification to the other person, so make sure you're OK with them knowing you're taking the screenshot. The method for taking screenshots varies depending on your phone:

    • iPhone - Press and hold the Power and Home buttons.

    • Android - Not every phone can take screenshots, but most newer ones can. Below are a few of the most popular Android models. See this article for more information.

      • Samsung Galaxy S Series - Press and hold the Power and Home buttons.

      • Nexus Series, HTC One - Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons.

  2. Open the Snapchat that you want to capture. Remember, the other person will be notified that you are taking a screenshot. Press and hold the Snapchat to open it. You will see a timer in the upper-right corner denoting how long it will last. Keep pressing your finger on the Snapchat to keep it active.

  3. Press your screenshot buttons. If you have to, do this with your other hand while you continue holding the Snapchat with your finger. As soon as the screenshot is captured, the other user will be notified. The screenshot will be saved to your phone's gallery.

Taking a Screenshot Without Notifications

  1. Download a third-party app. While there used to be several methods to bypass Snapchat's notifications, these have all since been patched out. In order to take screenshots without sending a notification to the other user, you will need to download one of these apps:

    • Snapkeep (iOS)

    • SnapBox (iOS)

    • SnapSeeker (Android)

  2. Don't open the Snapchat that you want to save. In order for these apps to work, you will need to leave the Snapchat unopened. These apps are not able to retrieve photos from Snapchats that have already been opened.

  3. Open the third-party app. You will be asked to log in with your SnapChat information. This will sign you out of your regular SnapChat program, meaning you will need to sign back in to reply.

  4. Select the Snapchat you want to save. When you log in, you will be presented with a list of available Snapchats. You will only be able to choose from Snapchats that you have not opened. Select the one you want and the photo will be downloaded to your phone. The other user will not receive a notification that the Snapchat was saved.

    • Make sure that the other user is comfortable with their Snapchats being saved. This is not normal functionality, and most people expect Snapchats to disappear after they have been viewed.

Warnings

  • None of the apps above are guaranteed to work every time. There may be times that the photos won't load, or that the other user gets notified anyway.
