How to Delete a YouTube Account

Your YouTube account is now completely connected with your Google account, which means you can't delete one without deleting the other. If you have multiple channels, however, each one is treated as a separate account and can be deleted individually. See Step 1 below to learn how to delete your YouTube channels or delete your Google account entirely.

Steps

Deleting a YouTube Channel

  1. Log in with the channel you want to delete. Each channel you create will have an individual account on YouTube and Google+. When you delete the YouTube channel, you will also need to delete the associated Google+ Page.

    • This is only available if you have multiple channels. You cannot delete the channel associated with your Google account unless you delete the entire account (see the next section).

    • To switch accounts, click the image next to your name in the upper-right corner of the YouTube page. Click "Switch account", and then select the channel you want to remove.

  2. Open the channel settings. Click the Gear icon at the top of the page to the left of your channel's name. Select "YouTube settings" from the menu that appears.

    • Click the "Advanced" link underneath your channel's name in the Overview section of the Settings page.

  3. Click the "Delete channel" button. You will need to sign in again with your base Google account, and then the "Delete channel" page will open. You will be shown how many videos and playlists will be deleted, and how many subscribers and comments will be lost.

    • Click the "Delete channel" button again to delete the channel.

    • Your Google account will not be deleted.

  4. Delete the associated Google+ page. Even though the channel has been deleted, you can still log in to YouTube with your associated Google+ page, which has the same name. To completely erase it, you'll need to open the Google+ site.

    • Sign in with the Google+ page you want to delete. You cannot delete your Google account's base Google+ profile.

    • Hover over the Home menu and select Settings.

    • Scroll to the bottom and click the "Delete page" link.

    • Confirm that you want to delete it and click the "Delete page" button.

    • Check the box for each service you will lose access to and then check the boxes to confirm that you want to delete the Google+ page.

Deleting Your Google Account

  1. Remove your Google Account Entirely. Over the years, Google has been phasing out the old YouTube account system. Now, you don't actually have a YouTube account. instead, you have a Google account that allows access to all of Google's products, including Gmail, YouTube, Drive, and Google+. If you want to delete your YouTube account, you will need to delete your entire Google account, which means losing access to these services.

  2. Sign out of all accounts. Before you delete the account, make sure you are signed out of any other accounts. This will help prevent you from accidentally deleting the wrong Google account.

    • To ensure that you are completely signed out, visit Google and check the the upper-right corner displays a "Sign In" button.

  3. Log in with the account you want to delete. Check again that you are not logged in with multiple accounts by clicking on your image in the upper-right corner.

  4. Open your account settings. Click your image in the upper-right corner and click the "Account" link.

  5. Click the "Data tools" tab. This will open a page displaying how much storage you are using, as well as giving you access to the account deletion tools.

  6. Click the "Delete account and data" link. This is located on the right side in the "Account management" section.

  7. Check all of the boxes to confirm. Check the box for each service you will lose access to and then check the boxes to confirm that you want to delete the Google+ page. Enter your password again and then check the confirmation boxes.

  8. Click the "Delete Google Account" button. Your account will be completely deleted, and your data will be erased over the next few days. You will no longer be able to log in to any Google products using that account, including YouTube.

    • You can still watch videos without an account, but you will not be able to leave comments or upload.
