TURTLE TUNNELS OH MY WORD.
The West Japan Railway Company has teamed up with Suma Aqualife Park to build turtle tunnels to prevent the reptiles being harmed on tracks.
According to the Japan Times, when trying to cross railway tracks turtles can become stuck at junctions, and crushed when rails switch between tracks, causing travel issues for train passengers.
There have been 13 incidents caused by turtles between 2002 and 2014.
Five tunnels have been built near switch points in the area. The ditches are checked monthly, and turtles caught in the structures are taken to the aquarium.
