How to Make Apple Bread

Are you in the mood for something sweet and you are ready to get creative in the kitchen? Apple bread will fill the bill.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Butter

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • One apple, sliced

  • Raisins (optional)

  • 1 package dry yeast

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup of shortening

  • 1-1/4 cups of flour

Steps

  1. Take the butter out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature so it isn't so hard.

  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a 9" by 9" by 2" deep baking pan.

  3. Mix 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in a small mixing bowl.

  4. Sprinkle sugar mixture in the pan.

  5. Cut one apple of any variety into thin slices and arrange the apple slices in rows on the sugar/butter mixture.

  6. Sprinkle a few raisins over the apples for extra taste.

  7. Stir one package of active dry yeast and 3/4 cup water together in a large bowl.

  8. Add 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 cup of of Gold Medal flour.

  9. Beat for two minutes or until the batter drops from the spoon in sheets. Then add 1 egg, 1/4 cup of shortening and 1-1/4 cups of Gold Medal flour and beat until smooth.

  10. Drop the batter by small spoonfuls over the apples and raisins in the pan. Cover the pan and let it rise in a warm place until double its size (about 50 to 60 minutes).

  11. Heat your oven to 375°F.

  12. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until brown.

  13. Immediately remove the cake from the pan by turning it upside down onto a serving plate.

  14. Feed it to your friends or family and enjoy!

Tips

  • If you are using self-rising flour, omit salt.
